The paper investigates the anthropological underpinning economics, starting with a critique of the homo œconomicus model and proposing a different model, centered on the notion of anthropological richness. After an introduction aimed at providing the reference framework, the paper examines the notions of rationality and well-being in mainstream economic theory, showing their relation to the notion of homo œconomicus: it then proceeds to propose a different and richer anthropological model, inspired by the capability approach, and centered on the notions of intrapersonal relationality, interpersonal relationality, and dynamism. A concluding section sums up the discussion, and further remarks the need for a different model, based on human richness, that is more adequate to understand and orient economic behavior.
