Trust is a word that is difficult to find in nowadays public speech, maybe only to publicly display our struggles. It is the same for the european political dream. “Trust” and “Europe” seem to have been separated at birth, after a shared gestation and childbirth. This essay examines the reasons why we can overcome european disaffection or indifference, by investing on the wider relationship between “ideal” and “imaginary”. Our society, mostly based on suspicion, seems to paralyze the possibility that “Trust” and “Europe” could produce possible images and conjugate them according to credible ideals: the foreigner that is not a stranger and the uncertain future are two of the possible ways to connect an essential anthropological dynamic to a political and cultural community that is yet to be achieved.
