Europe, while getting lost in the labyrinth of its bureaucratic structures, is missing its force majeure, the promise of a new beginning. So Europe (intended as a new hope for brotherhood, open to new solutions, new initiatives and new ideas) became “Europe” (the repetition of stereotyped schemes that are not able to cope with new problems, but only confirm their impotence). Europe turns its back to its own future. There are three fundamental questions: first, how to reconcile various models and forms of life and how to deal with a form of life based primarily, if not exclusively, on economic categories; secondly, how regionalism is able to cut nationalisms that continually arise from the cult of the nation state, while defending differences and local identities; finally, how to build a cosmopolitan solidarity capable of founding a community that doesn’t perceive the development of the individual as a threat to itself, but instead draws a directive for the future.
