The essay proposes to search in the roots of european culture the resources to imagine a future of EU based on the same ideals that created Europe. Moving from a reconstruction of the idea of civil market, first developed following the Franciscan thought and later by Napolitan economist Antonio Genovesi, the essay shows the modernity of a personalistic approach to economy. So, this essay proposes, in light of the current economic and social crisis, to meditate on the european project, which places the human being – in the entirety of his existential dimensions – at the centre of politics.
