The practice of heterologous fertilization – either by a heterosexual couple, or by a homosexual couple – questions deeply the consciences of individuals and makes a serious public reflection urgent. The stakes are high: it is about the human way of being born, the relationship between desire and rights, about the difference between things and people. Especially, it is necessary to look at this from a variety of perspectives, necessary to investigate properly a complex phenomenon that requires exploring both from ethical and anthropological viewpoints, as well as from psychological, legal, social and even theological ones. The essay provides an introduction to this issue, allowing for the examination of the different thematic analyses offered in this book.
